Disposition in collection
Occurrence remarks Palm 16 m tall overall, with stem 12 m long x 36 cm dbh. Persistent leaf sheaths and portions of petiole up to 20 cm long present on basal 2 m of stem which is brown in this area. Rest of stem grey with flat ovoid scars resulting from shed leaves, conspicuous. Upper 6 m of stems fairly rough and knobbly with conspicuous vertical fissures present. The palm was present in a crowded colony of young to intermediate aged palms 4-14 m tall. Only 2 other tall specimens present, 16-18 m tall. Leaf blade glaucous, dull turquoise green with conspicuous white wax above and below. Segments relatively stiff but ends droop and hang, aristate. Blade profile tends to be ellipsoid-ovoid with a relatibely stiff sided arc out of the base, due to the proximal segments angling 45-90 degrees from the petiole, with an arching projection causing them to hang parallel to and well out from the petiole. Proximal segments may be even or elevate up to 3 cm above the main plain of the blade. Leaf length: 333-374 cm long including petiole which = 152-200 cm long, 4.1-4.8 cm wide (mid area), 3.8-4.0 cm wide (near blade), 1.3-1.5 cm deep (mid area), 1.2-1.5 cm deep (near blade). Brown to black spines arise 35-40 cm from the base of the petiole and extend 35-44 cm along petiole edges. Edges smooth distally, with 1 or 2 small spines occuring near blade. Petiole green above and below, densely covered with short white hair above, much less below in young and intermediate aged leaves. [continues in detail...] Tree
