Organism remarks Pileus: 65-94 mm broad, circular, conico-convex at first, broadening to almost plane with small, sharp umbo; margin inturned, becoming plane, softly, evenly ragged; narrowly white; surface dry, dull, appressed radially fibrillose, pale brown (Methuen 5B3-5B4) with dark brown, finely warty centre (5E6) with same coloured scattered, minutely dotted, patchy, raised scales radiating outwards from centre. Flesh: white, firm, up to 4 mm thick at centre, with stipe inserted. Lamellae: up to 43 mm long x 8 mm deep; free, thin, fragile, crowded to close; face smooth, margin minutely serrulate (x10), slight brownish bruising ivory white, 1-2 tiers of lamellules. Stipe: 17.7-29 mm long x 7-22; 8-13-28 mm wide, central, terete, tapering upwards with a bulbous base; dry, slightly silky at top, pale brown (paler than 5B3) above loose partial veil, becoming gradually darker brown towards base with scattered tiny dark brown (5E6) scales becoming more dense at the base. Flesh: easily broken, fistulose except at bulbous base, white with light brown margin. Partial veil: thin, pale, above, thicker, fleshy below with thin dark brown edge, minute brown scales; white underneath. Spore print: white. Odour: none. Taste: not tested but have eaten the caps cooked at various times. Gregarious.
