Organism remarks (i) white gills, stipe and flesh; (ii) large angular volva; (iii) grey brown longitudinally fibrillose cap. Pileus: 26-43mm; broadly convex with flattened apex and incurved margin becoming applanate with slight central depression and plane margin; margin smooth and entire when young; pileipellis becomes loose around margin, becoming crenate and irregularly radially split (rugose); moist, very slightly greasy, soon drying, glistening under lens; with large patch of remnant universal veil, thick, appressed matted fibrillose becoming thinner with cap expansion and eroding away completely in some specimens; older specimens are longitudinally fibrillose, appressed, not obviously so centrally; light steel grey (6D3) darkening (6E4) and then paling in older specimens especially marginally. Stipe: 50-60mm; cylindrical with large angular volva; solid becoming narrrow, hollow along length, volva softens and shrinks; dry; longitudinally appressed, fibrillose, white. Partial veil: cortinoid, (matted, dense, fibrillose), white; persisting in some older specimens as only remnant fibril zone or inconspicuous in less mature specimens, otherwise annulus is obvious, delicate, two thirds the way up the stipe. Lamellae: adnate, to 5mm deep, crowded, smooth (though under lens very slightly frayed, white, lamellules present (L=38, l=24 for half the cap). Flesh: white, 4mm thick over stipe. Seems to match A. eucalypti - macro e.g. large UV patch on cap, free volva rim; micro e.g. broad spores, filamentous non-clamped universal veil remnants on cap. Spore print: white Macrochemical Tests: 15% KOH: slight yellowing of all tissues Mode of Life: unknown Odour: nothing.
Occurrence remarks Unburnt.
