Occurrence remarks Shrub to 5.5 m high and to 3 m wide, in urban creekline where weeds are displacing native plants. Spreading by layering of stems that root where in contact with the ground. Shrub with cane-like stems, sparsely branched possibly due to low light levels. Stems at base to 4 cm wide. Leaves alternate, dark green above, paler below, veins palmate and exserted (more so beneath), 5-lobed, lobes broad lanceolate with acuminate tips, margin toothed except for tip; stipules linear lanceolate. Flowers solitary on long pedicels in leaf axils. Sepals 5, stellate hairy, 23.5 mm long, 7.5 mm wide, broad lanceolate with acuminate tip c. 6 mm long. Petals 5, yellow orange with dark red veins, 40 mm long including 10 mm limb, 32 mm wide, overlapping
