Organism remarks Peridium - cupulate, smooth internally, tufted outside. Obconic when young, narrowed to base. 7 - 10mm high, 7 - 9mm across, 1 - 2mm broad at base. Margin expanded, almost smooth, slightly crenate. Wall - 3 layered, outer: dirty white with tufts, middle: brown, threads running in 2 directions at right angles giving woven affect, inner: smooth, greyish brown, lighter towards base. Epiphragm present, young fawn, outer surface with tufts of coarse hyphae. Peridiola - black to brown, smooth, 1 - 2mm diam., attached to wall of peridium - funiculus extended in some cases & peridium attached to leaves of small clover plants. Wall - 3 layered, outer: hyphae interwoven, long brown, sparsely branched, middle: coloured compact pseudoparenchyma, inner: colourless hyphae. Spores - large, hyaline, almost spherical (23 - 40um) average of 20 - 24um. Epispore wall - smooth hyaline approx. 2 - 3um thick. Margin of peridium at first curved inwards to meet epiphragm, upright when epiphragm ruptures, later expanded and more or less horizontal or reflexed.
