Occurrence remarks Locally common (>20 plants in collection area) shrub to 2.5 m high. Cladodes dark green, rope-like when young, older trunk-like cladodes not knotted. Leaves present at the base of areoles on young cladodes and young fruit, although these are easily shed. Long spines 0–several per cladode areole and long spines with a detachable sheath. Petaloid stamens purple. Fruit sometimes in chains, up to 6 fruit in a chain observed.

Supplied as "Alongside drainage line passing under road and into neighbouring pasture. Layered compressed sediments that easily break up substrate. Red brown clay loam. Eucalyptus albens Benth. woodland where growing with Hyparrhenia hirta (L.) Stapf, Aristida ramosa R.Br., Bothriochloa macra (Steud.) S.T.Blake, Glycine clandestina Wendl. s.lat., Sida spinosa L., Sida cunninghamii C.T.White, Teucrium sp. A (of Conn, B.J. (1992) Flora of NSW Volume 3), Aristida leptopoda Benth., Opuntia aurantiaca Lindl., Digitaria coenicola (F.Muell.) Hughes , Paspalidium gracile (R.Br.) Hughes, Asperula cunninghamii Airy Shaw & Turrill, Panicum queenslandicum Domin var. queenslandicum, Cymbopogon refractus (R.Br.) A.Camus, Capillipedium spicigerum S.T.Blake and other native and naturalised herbs and grasses."
