Occurrence remarks | Multi-branched, trailing, rhizatomous, tuberous, matt-forming succulent herb that is weakly erect to 20 cm tall. Stems reddish green to purple, moderately covered with curved antrorse white hairs, and developing a brown, lumpy lenticulate woody epidermis with age. Leaves ovate and denticulate with blunt tips, adaxial surface bright green and lightly covered with curved hairs, abaxial surface pale green and densely pitted with sessile orange glands. Inflorescence a single-stemmed raceme with soon-dehiscing bright green and hairy caducous bracts and verticillasters of up to 6 pedicellate flowers; calyx green or purplish, covered in antrorse white hairs and orange sessile glands, with 1 larger lobe forming an adaxial lip and 4 smaller lobes forming abaxial lip; corolla mauve, lateral lobes with distinct white stripe along midvein, adaxial lobes with paler midvein, outside of adaxial and abaxial lobes covered with short hairs and orange glands; stamens and pistil becoming darker mauve towards tips, purple anthers bear orange pollen; fruiting calyx beige coloured. No scent when leaves are crushed. Uncommon with only a colonial matt of up to 4 square metres. |
