Occurrence remarks Tall, erect succulent to 5 metres. Pad somewhat elliptic in shape and tomentose. Areoles with some spines in them, younger plants with larger spines. Flowers vibrant orange and showy. 400 individuals. Bird spread. [Mould treated with alcohol by G. Taseski] [Mould identified by Dr E. Liew (NSW) as standard herbarium specimen moulds and non pathogenic to humans but gloves and facemasks should be worn when handling specimens.]

Supplied as "Sloping pastoral land with remnant Cumberland Plain Woodland around. Canopy dominated by Eucalyptus tereticornis and E. crebra. Understorey mostly cleared except for Opuntia tomentosa, Lycium ferocissimum, Olea europaea and Bursaria spinoa. Understorey dominated by forbs and grasses."
