Organism remarks | (i) sticky, soft bright red-brown cap; (ii) cream then pinkish soft hymenium; (iii) white then rhizomorphic mycelium; (iv) often on rotting wood or rich organic soil. Pileus: to 30mm diameter; flat convex with appendiculate incurved (perhaps inrolled when young?), then almost applanate with entire, smooth, conspicuously appendiculate margin, soft consistency, very sticky / viscid; dark red brown (near 8F8-9F8) uniformly then becoming brighter caramel (near 10F8) but brighter) and yellowish at the margin (6B5). Stipe: to 50 x 6(apex) 10(base); cylindrical or slightly tapering towards apex; solid; dry but sometimes with viscid regions; minutely pulverulent; white with some bright yellow stains especially near the base. Hymenium: tubes adnexed, 7mm long; not ventricose; soft; cream (near 3A2) when young then pink (near 7B3). Pores: small (10 per 5mm), circular or polygonal, uniform size, concolorous with tubes. Bruising dull pink. Flesh: cream, discolouring red in the stem in streaks when cut. Basal mycelium: conspicuous thin white rhizomorphs. Spore print: flesh colour (6C5 to 7C5) Macrochemical Tests: 15% KOH: yellowish on flesh and hymenium, no reaction on cap. FeSO4: no reaction Mode of Life: unknown Odour: not distinctive. |
