Occurrence remarks | Medium sized tree with slender bole and many branched crown with sparse foliage. Height 60 ft [18 m]. Bole 30 ft [9 m crown?] d.b.h. 10 ins. [25 cm]. Bark 1 1/2 " [4 cm] thick, deeply vertically furrowed, strongly fibrous, layered, no distinct under bark or inner bark - grey to grey brown. Wood light brown, fine textured, hard and heavy with fine rays and small pores. Leaves thin, light to medium green, smooth on both sides, with numerous dots, small. Flowers. Brownish red calyx, bright red petals and stamens; inside of receptacle yellow brown, leathery to woody capsules. |
