Occurrence remarks | Long slender bole, moderately spreading crown, no buttresses. Height 130 feet [39 m], bole 60 feet [18 m], d.b.h. 24 inches [c.60 m]. Bark 1/2 inch [1.3 cm] outer bark brown and grey mottled , shallowly, irregularly fissured and ridged; under bark amber coloured, weak sassafras smell. Blaze straw, darkening to red brown, corky. Wood moderately light and soft, woolly cut, straw coloured, small pores on multiples up to 4, widely spaced thin bands of parenchyma. Leaves glossy light green above, covered densely by coppery coloured scales beneath. |
