Organism remarks | Characteristic features: (i) pileus 85 mm diam.; dark grey with a slightly purplish tinge, covered entirely with a fine 'frost' of appressed mat of whitish-pale grey (glistening under lens) matted fibrils which are easily removed upon touch; (ii) lamellae adnate, quite shallow (only up to 5 mm deep), crowded, pale cream, not bruising; edge very minutely densely cystidiate (under lens); (iii) stipe 35 x 10 mm; longitudinally streaked; (iv) flesh mottled/streaked brownish in stipe, paler and not mottled in pileus. Micro: Spores: ellipsoid, verrucose, strongly amyloid, with conspicuous suprahilar plage, size .e.g. 7.4 x 6.2; 7.5 x 6; 8 x 5.7; 8 x 5.6 microns. Basidia: slender clavate, 4-spored, size e.g. 37 x 9 microns. Cheilocystidia and pleurocystidia: scattered singly, urtriciform of the exscissa-type i.e. with tapering-aculeate terminal cell often with apical cluster of narrow crystals (most disappear when mounted in KOH and coverslip tapped down), and with medial septum; size e.g. 55 x 6.9 microns. Clamps: absent. odour: not distinctive. Spore print: white. |
